“…that night in Sydney I swam a 2:05.88. It was the best race I ever did in my whole life, and that was all I had control over. I had no control over what the other girls in that race were going to swim. 2:05.88 could have been bronze or eighth! All any of us ever have control over in life is that we do the very best we can with what we have been given.”
– from my Olympic Story Speech
In life there are so many complex variables that have to come together for success at the highest level. Most of the time the odds are stacked against us. There are a lot of things we can control, and so many more that we can’t. Of course, in life there are no guarantees, and that is really scary. What if we do everything we can and still fall short? There is only one way to find out. We have to have big dreams and do everything we can to try to reach them.
